The City of Essex Junction is seeking an engaged and community-focused Assistant Youth Librarian to support library services for children and families. This role plays an important part in helping youth and caregivers discover library resources, build literacy skills, and feel welcomed and supported in the library.

Pay/Wages The pay rate is between $22.90 to $28.00 based on experience.

What you’ll do

  • Provide friendly and responsive service at the Youth circulation desk, including checkouts, reference help, and reader recommendations
  • Help children and caregivers use the library, including digital resources and technology
  • Plan and lead engaging programs for children, including early literacy and summer reading activities
  • Support outreach efforts with schools, families, and community organizations
  • Promote library programs and services through communications and marketing
  • Assist with selecting and maintaining youth collections
  • Help create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive library environment

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working with children, families, or youth programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Comfort using technology and learning new systems

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience
  • At least two years of experience working with youth (library experience preferred)

Preferred qualifications

  • Library certification or degree, or willingness to pursue one
  • Experience in a public-facing or community-based role
  • Experience planning programs or leading projects

Work environment

This role involves working in a busy, public-facing environment, including evenings and weekends.
